5 years:

OH, HELLO FRIEND :: 5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY from Arthur Jung on Vimeo.

Last Friday we had our 5 year anniversary party! Arthur Jung came to document the night with his film skills, really love how it turned out – he captured all the fun stations and entertainment we had. Be sure to follow him on instagram too.

Planning for a party is some serious high-level stress. In past events I’ve done or helped friends with, I get super stressed and I wear my emotions easily. This event I was determined to not let the stress get to me and turn me into crazy-danni. Early on in the week I had a chat with Nick that it was going to be a stressful week and I may freak out but I didn’t want to take any of that out on him. I think that really helped set the tone for the week and I can proudly and thankfully say I didn’t stress out hardly at all especially on the day of, which I usually am the most stressed. Thankful because the Lord helped me through the week and I give all glory to Him because I wouldn’t have been able to get through it on my own. I was so grateful and humbled to have so many wonderful friends helping out the day of (thank you Rebecca+MichaelSunny, Ashley, Katie, and my Aunt Irene who baked 150+ tea cakes & cookies for the party!)

Nick said it felt like setting up for a wedding 😉 We had a ton of people come out, I’d say around 250 or so. We gave out 200 swag-bags and the lines were long but I think everyone had an all around good time. We raised $800 for Zoe International, will do a post on that later.

If you’re local – these vendors are wonderful ideas for entertainment for parties & events: we had cotton candy stand, a silhouette artist, a calligraphy artist, some amazing live music by me & mr cassidy, a photo booth, and we used found rentals for all our beautiful furniture & props (like the heart like in the video) Rialto Cafe in Fullerton does some great catering too, we use them for all our events.

Anyway, if you’re like me and get stressed out for things like this, I recommend just prepping your mind for the week. Set realistic expectations and map out everything that needs to be done. I am a big procrastinator too which does not help with the whole stress-thing 😉 I just made a lot of lists and had a lot of great support.

5 year party:

in 2008, oh, hello friend shop + blog was created and we had no idea we’d end up where we are today.  we’ve had so much support from you guys – so we’re celebrating our 5 year anniversary with a big party

If you’re in Southern California, I hope you can make it, it’s going to be really fun! We’re having a calligraphy artist offering instant prints (give her a phrase and she’ll write it in pretty calligraphy script for you to take home!), a silhouette artist (she’ll cut out your silhouette!) a cotton candy stand (so cute!), live music from the amazing Me & Mr Cassidy (love them!) a diy/craft station, tattoo station, refreshments, giveaways, and more.

We’re also having 2 raffles – #1 raffle) we’ll be raffling off five #5 pinatas (pictured above) filled with lots of cool surprises! tickets are $1 and they’ll be available at the party.

#2 raffle) if you buy anything in the shop and your purchase totals $10 or more purchase – SAVE YOUR RECEIPT and enter it into an exclusive raffle at the party to win a $50 gift card to the shop! Any purchases made between October 10th – October 18th will qualify. Be sure to save your receipt and bring it to the party!

Find all the information about the event and RSVP here! The event is free to attend but we’re asking for a donation (suggested $5 or whatever you can give!) to support Zoe International. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the organization!

oh, and first 100 in line will receive a swag-bag filled with TONS of goods from the companies listed below!

Don’t worry, if you’re not local to California, we’ll be having some special online festivities to celebrate our 5 years and thank YOU, our blog supporters! :)

Happy Friday:

I know peach is really in for the summer colors right now. I am loving peach! I am so attracted to anything this color – so we’ve been getting a few fun peach things in the shop!

So do you have anything planned for the weekend?? Nick & I are doing a little birthday celebrating.. Both of our birthday’s are in June! Which makes it nice because we get to celebrate his birthday and then a week after, we celebrate mine :) Anyone else have a birthday in June? I used to not know anyone with a June birthday but then I met a ton of people in college with June birthday’s… go June!

Thanks for your sweet comments about our shop and also joining in on the discussion about contentment from the other day. Seriously you guys, it was so encouraging to read your thoughts on being content (or discontent) and comparing/being grateful/etc.  You guys reminded me it’s all about keeping things in perspective. A couple things that really hit home was something Lauren said, “When I play the comparison game, I’m holding myself to standards that aren’t attainable.” so true. and also Vicki noting that we all tend to put the best of our lives forward, but there may be a lot of other stuff going on too. It reminded me of this instagram comic strip, which is kind of true sometimes 😉 and even a couple of you ladies who cut out certain blogs and social media that you realized were possibly causing some discontentment, very admirable. Even my 2 aunts who read the blog emailed me a sweet note about what I wrote about, it was so encouraging!

Hope you have a wonderful and lovely weekend  friends :) see you next week. xo.

oh hello friend shop opening:

Wow, i really can’t believe it’s been 3 months since we opened our first retail shop! Sorry I haven’t posted photos of the shop sooner. These photos were taken by the lovely Kimberly Genevieve. It’s so crazy to look through these now and think about how the shop has already changed so much in a couple short months. I did post some instagram photos taken throughout the night and a thank you note – seriously you guys, I’ll always remember the crazy outrageous amazing wonderful support you showed at our grand opening – I’ll look back and tell my grandkids about you guys coming, lining up, waiting, buying and being awesome. Thank you!

Anyway, we have some tentative ideas/classes in the works like lunch break craft/discounts, swap parties, craft classes, & lots more! I’m also planning on having a couple warehouse sales ASAP. Sign up for the exclusive retail shop mailing list so you don’t miss out on these happenings! :)

Message Tape:

I’ve had this idea for a while and tried to get it made with washi tape but I had to order some huge amount like 10,000 rolls or something. Which was kind of a lot 😉 So I was super excited to get this tape printed with our designs. I figured you guys would really appreciate this because you like packaging and nifty things! Rolls of message tape are available here in the shop!

The tape is simple – you just tear at each message and place on your package/envelopes/whatever! Rolls are just $10 each and a roll will last you quite a while with hundreds of little messages per roll! (haven’t actually counted how many there are but it’s a lot!)

Calling all letter lovers – we’ve got a roll especially for you with special package sayings like: airmail, send more letters, special delivery, please deliver to, & more!

So what do you guys think? Any specific sayings you’d like to see or think would be cool? Our next designs will include occasions like birthdays and holidays! Don’t miss out on getting a roll of tape for yourself here at the shop! Also available in our retail shop.

With the introduction of this new product, we thought it’d be fun to give away a roll of tape to 10 lucky winners! Simply tweet / facebook / or instagram an image from this post and come back and comment here! Be sure to tag @ohhellofriend so we can track your entries.

*  this is a original idea designed and produced by by oh, hello friend. tape is printed in the usa.

Thank you:

Wow. So we had our grand opening on Saturday and I really had no idea the turnout would be what it was. I just want to say THANK YOU to those of you who came and supported oh, hello friend. Those of you who stood in line to get into the store and then stood in line again just to pay. Thank you for your incredible support. I’ve really never seen anything like that, I was so touched. I kind of teared up throughout the day thinking of how amazing & supportive you all were. Wanted to say sorry the store was so small and we couldn’t fit everyone at once and I’m sorry I didn’t get to talk to more of you! and for those of you who came later, sorry the photo booth broke down! We’re looking to get a photo booth to stay in the shop permanently, so that could be fun :) Hope you can make it back to the shop soon – we’ll be restocking and getting lots of fun new inventory in!
We’re planning on having lots of fun events and classes at the shop – Be sure to sign up for the shop mailing list to stay updated! If you have a class suggestion, let me know! I didn’t even think to put out a list at the opening, heh. Things you remember afterward…

Anyway, there will be an official post with more photos from the shop but there were so many great photos from instagram (#ohfparty), I had to post some here! Thanks to everyone who posted photos!

We had a ton of fun swag we passed out and I saved a couple bags for blog readers to win since not all of you live in CA and could make it. I’ll post it along with a giveaway in a few days :)

From the bottom of my heart, thanks again to everyone who came to the opening. I wish I could hug each one of you and thank you personally. Your support means so much to us. We were really humbled  to have so many amazing friends and readers show up, I think the other shops around the area were like, what’s going on? 😉 Thanks again you guys.

shop progress:

I think at the house update, someone commented they wanted to see an update of the shop progress. So here are some pics I’ve been snapping over the past couple weeks. We’ll have an official post of shop pics once the shop is all done (going to be shot by Kimberly Genevieve, she is so good!) for those of you who aren’t in the area but are curious to see how it looks :)

Nick has been building a lot, it is so cool to see him go at it with such ambition! He’s got some serious DIY skills – I never would have thought “we could make that” before, but now I’m like, “hey, you can make this!” 😉 This is all pretty surreal, the fact that we’re really doing it. We’re really opening a shop! We’ve been thinking about it for so long and it happened pretty fast but it definitely feels like the opportunity opened up for us and it was the next thing to do for our brand. We’re blessed. I’m so excited for you guys to see the shop during the opening this weekend. Thanks for your response & support. Can’t believe it’s just a couple days away!

We’re almost ready..

Sorry I’ve been mia the past couple days. I’m stressing out a little now that we’ve set a an opening date! We’re officially opening our shop on Saturday February 2, 2013. If you’re in the Southern California area, we’d love for you to join us at our grand opening! We’re giving away some pretty cool swag-bags for the first 100 customers, we’ll be having giveaways and a DIY station along with desserts!
Please RSVP to let us know you’re coming and to make sure we have enough desserts and DIY supplies :) We’re in Downtown Fullerton – our shop is on Harbor, in between Commonwealth and Amerige! There’s a parking lot behind our building and plenty of parking in the Downtown Fullerton area.

This year actually marks the 5th year anniversary of oh, hello friend. 5 years ago I started this blog and business at my day-job. Thanks for sharing in this special time with us! If you’ve read the blog for a while, you know I’ve gone back and fourth with the idea of a shop. Can’t believe it’s really happening, seems unreal. Hope you can join us friends!
