weekend in chinatown:

weekend in chinatown:
Nick & I spent our weekend at the LA Craft Experience, which was held during the Chinese New Year celebration in Chinatown! We didn’t get to see much of the festivities but it was fun hanging out and eating from lots of the food trucks.

On Sunday before we headed back to the event, we went to Melrose Trading Post, which is held every Sunday in LA. They had a ton of stuff.. I got a duck gumball machine and a set of brass penguins for about $25.

My neighbor had really pretty succulents for sale.

pattywagon: yum!
Are food trucks big in your area? They’ve pretty much exploded in LA. They have a food truck for every food you can think of! I tried pattywagon hamburgers, it was the best mini burger I’ve ever had. Yum. I want one right now!
So that was my weekend, I totally forgot to take a picture of Nick & I together. How was your weekend? Be back tomorrow with more good cheer and regular posts. It’s not too late to get the good cheer deal from K is for Calligraphy! It’s open to international friends too! Happy Monday friends.

weekend trip to the hospital:

*pics posted with my husband’s consent 😉 he’s so cute!
You know how I was supposed to go to Renegade SF last weekend? If you follow my twitter, you may have known that didn’t end up happening. What did happen was around 1am on Friday, well, technically Saturday – Nick started getting bad pains in his stomach and so we decided to go to the ER.
Our original plan was to leave for SF at around 8pm, get there by 4am and sleep for a couple hours. Instead, we came up with a weird/crazy plan of going to sleep early at 8pm, waking up at 2am and driving to SF to arrive in time to set up for the show. The 2nd plan was crazy but I know the Lord was really watching over us through it. If we had left at 8, we would have been on the road when Nick’s stomach started hurting. and I wouldn’t have known where to take him!
Anyway, they released us from the ER at around 4am and Nick said he was feeling better and that we should still go to SF. I really wanted to go but I was concerned about him. We prayed about it and I just felt like we needed to stay. At 7am, Nick’s stomach pains were back and they were worse. We went back to the ER and they gave him a CT. It turned out he had a bowel obstruction. I hear these are quite common but his pain was really awful. He was throwing up and it seemed like the pain would never end.
We were praying praying praying. I asked friends + family for prayers. Praying for Nick to feel better, praying that he didn’t need surgery. By Sunday he was feeling better and they kept us in for observation. We got discharged yesterday afternoon and I was so glad for my husband to be home.
So we thought we were going to have an adventure in SF, we ended up having a hospital adventure instead. It was a long hard weekend. But I am grateful Nick is better. I’ve never seen him in so much pain before. Thank you to friends + family who prayed for him. The Lord is good and I believe He really watched over us through this entire situation. Sorry to anyone who came out to Renegade, I got some emails + tweets about it. I was bummed about not being able to make it to SF but of course my husband’s health comes first. My aunt said that there will be many craft shows, but I only have 1 Nick 😉 so true.

a trip to the flea market:

Well, I figured it’s been a while since I’ve shared my adventures at the flea market with you so here’s another post :) I learned my lesson in buying stuff for the wedding (my place is over-flowing with decor from the wedding) So I didn’t buy much this trip, but it’s just fun to walk around and see all the treasures.
Photobucket
Oh how I would have loved to take home this yellow bike.
You know yellow is my favorite color? Yep, I suppose it’s bound to happen
when I have a mother whose closet is full of nothing but yellow. 😉
Photobucket
Wouldn’t have minded taking home these industrial drawers + boxes too.
Nick probably would have minded though. Just a little :)
Photobucket
I wish I had ruby’s sewing skills so I could buy
this lovely fabric and make something pretty.

Really sweet Matryoshka doll collection. Come to
think of it, I think my mom has a few of these.
Maybe I’ll take them and start a collection!

I have a thing about drawers and cubby’s. I love them! But I have lots of drawers + storage in my studio already.. Only, a lot of the drawers are empty, ha! Or I’ll put something in a drawer and forget about it. Maybe it’s the idea of having all the storage spaces or something. Anyway, these drawers were $140. What do you think? Reasonable? Or overpriced? I should have got them, they’re cool!

Vintage wood rubber stamps, my favorite!
Well, that’s all for this trip. I got a great shelf I’ll be using at my craft shows for only $30. I love useful finds. Do you have any good antique market stories to share?

a GLEE surprise:

i have to share my weekend update with you, though this was a couple weekends ago. so i like glee. i think it’s a great show. i read some twitter controversy going on a while back about how they auto tune their voices and everything, but i can’t carry a tune so i’m not a stickler when it comes to these things.
nicholas told me he had a surprise for me, and i had no idea what it was. he just said it was on a thursday evening and that i was really going to like it. i tried guessing and thinking what it could possibly be.
so we’re in the car and i happened to call my older brother to ask him a question and as i was saying goodbye, he was like, “wait danni are you going to see glee now?” and i was really confused. lol. i replied “glee? what are you talking about?” to which he replied, “glee. aren’t you going to see it tonight?” i said “bro, what do you mean glee? like glee the tv show? like you mean a glee taping?” lol. this continued for a good 2 minutes. neither of us got it. he didn’t realize it was a surprise, and i had no idea what he was talking about.
then it hit both of us at the same time. i realized and was filled with such excitement i was like, “ohmigosh, i gotta go!!!!” and he was like, “oh wait, never mind. i don’t know what i’m talking about. ok bye!” haha. the whole time nick was just about to die listening to our conversation and hearing the surprise spoiled.
i got off and looked at him and asked if we were seeing glee?! he said he got GLEE IN CONCERT tickets a couple months ago! i was SOO excited, it was the best surprise ever!
Photobucket
the concert was in la at the gibson amphitheatre at universal studios.

they showed all these classic glee quotes before the show started.

they sang all my fav’s, including defying gravity and bad romance.
the entire glee cast was there, it was legit. during the performance i thought “i can’t believe i’m here seeing all these glee people in person! this is unreal!” hehe. so all that to say, i have the best fiance, soon-to-be-husband EVER! 😉

weekend:

hi friends! i’m still here: sorry i’ve been absent the past couple days.
trying to get back into life and get into wedding planning.
nick + i had a fabulous time driving up north. he is the best, he
helped me out all weekend and he’s so much fun to be with. :)

or maybe i’ve just been missing sunsets lately because i’m always inside! 😉

flea market:

hi! i’ve missed being here. i want to thank you all for your sweet comments about the good news about my mom. i was just discussing with nick last night how i am so fortunate to have such a great community of blogger-friends and readers. you are all so supportive and i can’t thank you enough!
how was your weekend? this weekend was filled with lots for us. we saw iron man 2, spent saturday building a standing necklace panel for my display (will post pics once it’s in action this weekend at bazaar bizarre maker faire! click events to the right to find out more info!) and went to the flea market!
i found a beautiful lace dress that i thought would be lovely for the wedding, and it was only $50! i’ll take a picture of that too and post later 😉 i also ran into cathie, and met lots of her sweet friends, which was so cool! well anyway, here are some photos from the long beach antique flea market i thought you’d enjoy:

my favorite stop, “how does this guy get so much cool stuff??”

so that’s about it! if you saw something you want/need that you can’t get at your local flea (or dont have antique markets) i can i’ll totally look for something for you next time i go! what did you do this weekend? share your weekend posts from your blog or stories: i love to read what’s going on with you. hope you all had wonderful weekends!

flea market trip:

rose bowl flea market:

flea markets are one of my favorite things in the whole world. if i could, i would take a thrift/flea market road trip and travel the country stopping through markets and swap meets and thrift stores 😉 here are some images from a trip to the rose bowl flea market.

my finds. a few things from the dollar pile. some pretty handkerchiefs that i will tie together for a simple flag banner for wedding decor. old keys. a special jewelry box. and my favorite green suitcase.

rubyellen + cupcakes:

so i mentioned last friday that i was going to breakfast to meet rubyellen from cakies! if you don’t know ruby, you simply must. she is the most talented seamstress and artist. ( her shop is here )

it was so fabulous! she is beautiful, hilarious, thoughtful, sweet, amazing, and so real. and i got to meet brave + true, who are the most adorable girls ever. and she has another girl on the way!!

we discussed lots over pancakes and waffles and laughed as true dipped her pancakes into ketchup. man, kids are so awesome. i’m gonna go out on a limb and say that probably doesn’t taste that good, but true seemed to really enjoy it 😉 brave was so precious and wanted to do everything her big sister was doing.

anyway, ruby made me some delicious red velvet cupcakes. i seriously have a thing for cupcakes. i barely got a picture cause i wanted to eat them all. as you can see, 2 cupcakes didn’t make it in the picture 😉 but here you go. isn’t she amazing?

thank you for coming out and letting me spend time with you and your girls rubyellen!

weekend:

i’m back this week! thanks for all your kind get well wishes and tips from last week! it really made my day. nicholas got me some medicine (even though i’m stubborn and insisted that i didn’t need medicine) but it really helped.

so i haven’t done a weekend update in a while, and i thought my last weekend was definitely blog-worthy. whew, this is a long post but i hope you enjoy 😉

so friday night was the bf’s birthday: he had to work all day but we went to disneyland afterward. since we have passes, he got a free $60 gift card – sweet! we took the train to new orleans square, got a funnel cake, and left. we’re such an old couple, he just wanted to get home and relax 😉 plus when you have a pass, you can go whenever you want!

weekend update:
then on saturday, nick and i drove into the sunset to san diego for my little brother’s girlfriend’s dance show called body rock. it was a hip hop competition: and it was so incredible! even nick liked it, which i didn’t think he’d be into it at all. anyway, it was her last show and we thought it’d be good to support. her team is called tm (team millennia) for any of you who are familiar with teams. they did awesome! i knew samantha was on a team but when i met steppie, she told me all about it since she was on a team in college as well.

i am amazed at how close the dance community is: everyone seems so supportive and amazing. and dancing in itself is such a neat expression of creativity. steppie had so many dance friends stop by and support her when we did the uc irvine show.. one of steppie’s friend’s even knew my little brother’s girlfriend.

anyway, nick’s favorite dance was by Poreotics, their performance was super creative and entertaining :) my favorite dance was by common ground, it seriously made me teary! if you have a chance, you have to watch it and tell me what you think! the quality on youtube is good. lots of cheering and madness, haha.

weekend update:

so sunday was a back to back day. nick and i headed to la in the morning to go to universal studios. i’m a big fan of universal, it’s not usually too crowded (like disneyland) and it’s fun. there’s fun backdrops, like the one in the first picture: the book shop from notting hill! i like that my dress matched the entire thing.. and the 2nd picture is the famous shark backdrop… i’m sure we wouldn’t be smiling if that were alive. 😉

weekend update:

ok, one of my favorite things to do at universal is go on the studio tram tour. they take you through sets and you get to see all the leftover props from movies and stuff. so if you have already recognized: that is susan mayer’s house from desperate housewives! we got to see all the houses, i’m a fan of the show so it was lots of fun.

then they have the bates hotel stage from psycho. and they have a real person pretending to be norman bates! haha. he came out from the room with a body and put it in the trunk of the car. could you imagine if that were your job? all you have to do all day is walk around and pretend to be really creepy. he was legit.

weekend update:
after universal, we headed to glendale for a so cal blogger’s lunch! i was invited by the most sweetest lady ever: dionne from city of dionne! i hadn’t met anyone before, so i made nick come with me for support. it turns out i had nothing to worry about – everyone was so cool! dionne had put together lots of amazing goody bags for everyone, we talked a lot of nerd talk about twitter, blogs, and facebook. had lunch, some akward jumping pics (which are not included below, hehe) — it was so much fun.

friends from left to right: Dionne, Maggi, Bethany, Sabrina, Lindsey,

weekend update:
the girls holding eric.
and then all the boys..some of them have blogs!
( Eric, Andrew, Jon )

bloggerslunch

the first picture is maggi, i brought something for the grand prize but since i won it, i couldn’t win my own prize! so we drew another name and she won! so she’s modeling all her winnings and i think she is quite adorable.

the 2nd pic is of lindsey and jon! it was their anniversary but they still came out all the way from san diego! after the lunch, jon started his own blog, which i thought was pretty cool since some of the boys were bashing blogs 😉

then there is bethany, who is enjoying some desert that dionne got for us!

and the last pic is nicholas, going over his paper. we played this super fun game that eric taught us. eric was so cool, he is a structural enginner by day and he is an extra in tv shows! he mentioned he was in the season finale of desperate so i just had to watch. and he sure was, right behind eva longoria in the church scene at the end. so cool, haha.

weekend update:

i won the giveaway prize! i couldn’t believe it, i never win anything! it included some amazing soaps from spa delights and vintage pyrex tea cups from the kitchen shoppe and some very cute hair clips from ready go!

and then there i am with the beautiful dionne. she is quite amazing for putting this whole thing together: from all the food to the gift bags for everyone, and not only that, but she was so incredibly sweet! and she is just like me – she burns toast! the last image is her sad face with the completely burnt garlic bread in the trash, haha. thank you for letting me be a part of the lunch dionne!

have you ever met bloggers in real life? there is a whole list of blogger’s i’d love to meet for reals. i feel super fortunate in all the connections and friends i’ve made through this little blog.

well that is it for my weekend update. that was a long one 😉

weekend:

hello friends!

i’m sorry for such the delay in my post! i’ve been so busy getting the new blog layout ready for next week, i haven’t had a lot of time to do anything else. so it’s nearly a new weekend but i just wanted to catch up on last weekend! my brother’s and nick and i drove up to san jose for my cousin’s graduation. we got to spend some time at my mom’s new house, which is just lovely. i found out she had a cherry tree which i was super excited about. we got to pick lots and lots of cherries! here’s a view of her back yard! yep, her backyard has a lake. i want a lake in my backyard! and lots and lots of fruit trees 😉

backyard: moms house.

cherry tree.

then on monday nick and i went to disneyland! it was super busy. probably wouldn’t suggest going on a holiday 😉 we saw the aladdin show, i had nick take the ‘disney character’ test – he turned out to be jafar! haha. (first image you see, were in the storybook!) and in the second picture, i am next to the indian man holding pineapple whip which is so very good on a hot day.

dland:

so disneyland also has a 1 cent machine and you can watch a little flip book animation. so i thought i’d bring you all a little something from disneyland. (sorry some of the pages get all bunched up, i’m sure the machine is pretty old.) hope you can kind of make it out :)
